Our Occupational Therapists are seeking your support to help us create a new, dedicated sensory space for children and young adults with autism aged 11+.
"The main focus of OT for our students [..] is to support their high level of sensory need. We currently have a small sensory space that our students can access to assist with regulating their emotions and manage their sensory needs- however much of the equipment is now broken/semi-functioning and needs updating. Access to good quality sensory resources are integral to their day to day learning to enhance their ability to attend and feel calm and ready to learn." - Specialist Occupational Therapist
The new room will have soft wall and floor padding, and seating areas to provide our learners with the opportunity to relax and feel safe and calm. The room will be enhanced with beanbags and other soft furnishings such as cushions and specialist sensory resources. There will be selected purpose-made lighting equipment, such as a light projector and ‘Hurricane Tube’ which provides our learners with the tactile stimuli that they require to support their sensory needs. We have also selected sound and vibration items to provide our learners with further tactile stimulation to improve wellbeing.
As many charities have faced a reduction in fundraising activities over the last year, we need your help to make this project happen. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and will help empower children and young adults with autism.
By donating, you will be supporting 50 children and young adults access critical sensory resources for years to come. Thank you!
